10 Apps That Will Keep Your Mess Together
We have these things that we are tethered to at all times. They travel with us everywhere, and I do mean everywhere, yes even the bathroom. These things are with us from the time we wake in the morning to the time we lay our heads on our pillows at night. What are they?? Our cell phones.
I love technology. It makes me feel so smart(sometimes). In some ways I feel as if I have the world at my fingertips. If I want to know where the closest coffee hit is to me, it will calculate. Should I have a sudden craving for fried pickles, Siri will tell me where I can go to get them. A few weeks ago, our family got into a discussion on classic TV and the show Perfect Strangers was the topic of conversation. The question that we couldn’t go into church without knowing the answer to, “What island of Greece did Balki Bartakomous live before coming to America?”. Yup, even that answer arrived on our screens instantaneously. (The answer is Mypos, just in case you wanted to know.) I also feel that with great power comes great responsibility. If my phone is with me at all times and it has such incredible capability, it should be earning its keep. That is where the apps come in.
Periodically Apple will release an updated number of how many apps are currently available on iTunes . The most recent number, published in June of 2016, was around 2,000,000. As it is totally impossible for the average person to sift through 2,000,000 apps to find the ones that will help them keep their “mess” together, my hope is to introduce you to some apps that are far more valuable than their “free” price tag and will help your phone earn its priority in your life.
Money Saving Apps
Every Dollar is an easy to use budget app that helps you account for every dollar that comes in or goes out of your wallet. Based on Dave Ramsey’s, Financial Peace plan, that has helped millions get control of their dollars. This app is great if you are a newbie budgeter or have been budgeting for years. Create money categories quickly and easily and keep up with them anytime, anyplace. I love the fact that this app can be controlled from my laptop, iPad, and my phone while I am out and about. So if you have been thinking about creating a budget or are looking for an easier way to keep up with your family’s budget, I highly encourage this app.
Key Ring keeps all of your loyalty, membership, and library cards all together in one place. There is no longer a need for you to need chiropractic care just from lugging your keys and discount store cards with you. Just scan the barcode of your store savings cards into the app and get on with saving money. No more do you need to dig through your purse to find the store card or worse yet forgetting it at home. While the app would be helpful if it just stopped at that feature, it also allows you to browse weekly ads to see what is on sale at your favorite stores right from your phone.
Pic2Shop could arguably be my husbands most used app. Kevin loves knowing that he is getting the best deal possible, no matter what he is buying. This app allows him to scan any item that has a barcode to instantly compare the price of the item with local and online retailers. Just hover over the barcode and immediately know if you are getting a good deal. This app really has saved our family so much money and stopped us from overpaying for things we would have bought for instant gratification.
Grocery IQ makes keeping up with your grocery list quick and easy. Search their extensive product database, scan the barcode of the item you’d like to add to your list, or use their voice search to add your needed items to your list. Lists can be viewed on multiple devices. With the GroceryIQ.com website you can search for coupons and add them to your store loyalty card all from the app. Never forget the milk again.
Cozi is what I affectionately call the family Bible. Our family has been using this app for years and I love it as much today as I did the first time I downloaded it to my phone. The best part of this app is that with one account our entire family can add and delete events from our family calendar, set reminder notifications, and see a weekly review of what is on the agenda. We always know at a moment’s glance what is on the schedule and where we can accept babysitting jobs, pet sitting jobs, or schedule a date night. It keeps us all on the same page, seamlessly. The additional feature of being able to add items to shopping lists, to-do lists, or even log a note into the family journal. I highly recommend this app to everyone.
30/30 is a great app to use for homeschooling moms or individuals looking for some task management help. 30/30 helps you get stuff done. It is that simple. Set up a list of tasks and the duration of time given to complete, start the timer and the app will tell you when it is time to move on to the next item on your list. Need to help manage TV, computer, or gaming time for your child? This app will help. It has a simple approach and will help you stay on track.
Apps For Parents
Art Kive is a genius app to help you save and archive your child’s artwork. The struggle of to save each and every picture, painting, and craft project that your child brings home is real for so many parents. Recently a friend told me the story of how her little girl had made a smiley face picture for her. My friend extolled the proper amount of ohh’s and ahh’s to her little Picasso then when Picasso went down for a nap put the picture into the trash. Later as my friend was taking out the trash what should Picasso see at that very moment? Yup, you guessed it, the smiley face peeking out from the trash bag. With the Art Kive app you can keep the masterpieces forever, even turn them into a book or stuffed animal of the child’s imagination. Our daughter is taking an art class currently. Every few days she creates something new. If we kept them all we would be overrun with papers and scraps. With this app we never have to struggle to decide to keep it forever or sneak it out in the trash when Picasso is down for a nap. Like I said, pure genius.
Mom Maps will help parents and care givers find kid-friendly places on the go. If you are looking for a kid-friendly restaurant, playground, indoor play area, or activity; this app will help you find it. The app uses your phone’s GPS and can locate fun places perfect for you and your child. Also available are reviews from other parents of the locations found to help you find the best places to visit. The app developers continue to add new venues keeping the information fresh and new.
MyFitnessPal is the fastest and easiest calorie counter, fitness tracking app I have ever used. MyFitnessPal boasts the largest food database with over 5,000,000 foods available. With one app you can track your food, water, and daily fitness. The apps connect with many of the fitness watches on the market, including Fitbit, Garmin, and Apple and can be accessed easily from your computer. Ease of use are the key words that come to mind when thinking about this app.
Reference Guide for Essential Oils is a great app that draws information from some of the best essential oil reference guides available today. This app will offer usage oil suggestions for thousands of health and wellness conditions. Always keep in mind that essential oils need to be used in combination to common sense. If you are struggling with a serious medical condition contact your doctor, but for maintenance and prevention this app will be a huge help. While there is a small fee, I have more than gotten my money’s worth out of it.
